Mastodon, Pleroma, Peertube, etc.

I have an account on a Pleroma instance to keep in touch with eroge devs banned from Twitter and one on a Peertube instance to occasionally upload larger videos.

I did have a Bluesky account for a bit and allegedly they're going to federate (but with a different protocol vs mastodon or misskey), and then I gave up on social media not too long after.

I'd say Fedi is even worse than Twitter when it comes to the culture which is a fucking achievment for sure. Finding an instance that doesn't block, or isn't blocked by, like 2/3 of the rest of the serverbase because of petty reasons is basically impossible. It's a total failure of a protocol. I'm lucky I found a small invite-only space that is only blocked by about 100 servers because "they didn't block the nazis" I can use to keep in touch everybody I wish to but who knows how long that will last.

So today I discovered IndieWeb concepts of WebSub (aka PubSubHubbub), SSE, webfinger, etc that will allow publishing static website that will provide almost like FediVerse capabilities, and enable synication, custom desktop clients, ala Atom readers, with likes-replies-followers-rings. Did you knew that? Practiced?

I've tried to get Mastodon acc - only to find out it's a walled garden!
It's either 1 user - 1 server with closed regs... OR..
semi-open servers where each new reg is manually approved\activated under carefull review of owner, but that's not the worst part.
they have poopoo email hard requirements like something don't use Outlook, or "BIG" email ISP, because we don't want end up in spam bin, but then when I type in my unknown email provider I get either your email service been blacklisted or they unable to deliver/sent. cursed.

I was active during the early days of the technology, it was somewhat interesting back then, but not so much nowadays. The decision to just clone Web 2.0 SNS didn't really help their case. Very innovative stack with zero innovation being implemented software-wise.

with one sided RSS subsription protocol, people cant push notifications to /inbox. So for both-way comms it could be PubSubHubbub or ActivityPub, or some Nostr or something else.
