invalid feelings

Should we consider our own feelings invalid if we cannot explain the reasoning behind them. Feeling like you can explain why you feel a certain way is something that gives you the ability to assess a situation semi objectively, but from personal experience whenever i try and fail to do so it makes me feel extremely dumb. Should we accept that some feelings are just divine and so they work as kind of a hunch, or should the said feelings be considered invalid and therefore be discarded, really interested to hear your opinion

Not being able to explain a feeling in the moment is not the same as that feeling being unexplainable. Sometimes one takes a while to figure it out. Occasionally only after the feeling has become irrelevant, so I certainly wouldn’t encourage discounting it and suppressing it simply because you haven’t figured it out yet. At the same time, sometimes we have convincing explanations for feelings which are nonetheless wrong and similarly realize this only after the fact, so having a cogent sounding argument also shouldn’t make us certain that a feeling *isn’t* invalid. As a boring answer probably keep some uncertainty over all of them. Weigh it by how well your feelings usually serve you, how likely you have been to have/not have ha a good explanation for something that later turned out to be valid/invalid in the moment and get comfortable saying “i can’t explain this feeling i have, but in the past they’ve turned out to be pretty good and past events are the best indicator of future outcomes we have”. This too is a rational explanation for why you might want to heed a feeling, even when it isn’t very satisfying. And of course discount it if it does turn out not to serve you well, but don’t discount it for optics-reasons regarding your own appearance of objectivity.

i usually categorize feelings in two ways: the feelings that are just that, a bodily reaction to something that is usually so primitive at its core that it doesnt need explaining, you just feel the high it causes. And the feelings that are just so irrational that you get lost trying to find your way through them, they ususally lead to the first type of feeling but at times they just let me feeling confused which further fuels the feeling. i agree with >>2 though sometimes you just need a bit more and hindsight in order to fully grasp why you are feeling a certain way
